    3. Upgrading from Quattro Pro version 2.0
    -----------------------------------------
If you previously used BSINST to install additional Bitstream fonts,
you must re-install them after installing Quattro Pro 3.0.

If you previously installed BORLAND's ProShow PowerPack, you must re-
install it after installing Quattro Pro 3.0.

If you have any read-only files in the Quattro Pro directory,
make them read-write before you run INSTALL. If INSTALL encounters
any read-only files, installation stops immediately.

If you have custom menu trees from earlier versions, save them
to a different directory before you run INSTALL. Copy them
back to the Quattro Pro directory afterwards, and run NEWMU to
translate them to version 3.0 menu files. This retains all
      previous menu structures.

To upgrade to Quattro Pro 3.0 from an earlier version of Quattro Pro,
follow the instructions in Chapter 2 of "Getting Started."

      Upgrading network installations
      -------------------------------
When upgrading a network installation of Quattro Pro 2.0 to version
3.0, the menu and resource files stored in each users private
directory must be updated. These include any .MU, .MP, or .RF files.
Replace RSC.RF and 123.RF with the updated versions and create new .MP
files using MPMAKE as described in the User's Guide.

    4. Bitstream fonts
    ------------------
Quattro Pro uses Bitstream's Fontware Typefaces and enabling software,
producing high-quality bitmap fonts. When you look closely at printed
output from Quattro Pro, you may occasionally notice extra white space
between characters. This is not a problem with your fonts. This extra
white space is commonly reduced using a composition function called
kerning. Quattro Pro 3.0 does not offer kerning.

    5. Font generation post-installation
    ------------------------------------
The fonts that are generated during installation can optionally be
created post-installation. To create the fonts, load Quattro Pro,
retrieve the file INSTALL.WQ1 and follow the instructions. If a font
has already been rendered, INSTALL.WQ1 knows not to generate it again.

    6. New default fonts
    --------------------
The default fonts have changed in version 3.0. Font 1 through Font 4
are now Swiss, and Font 5 through Font 8 are now Dutch.

All spreadsheets you created in version 2.0 retain their original
      fonts.

Because of this late change, some screen figures in the "Getting
Started" tutorial may look different than the display on your
      monitor.

    7. WYSIWYG mode
    ---------------
If during installation you choose WYSIWYG mode as your default display
mode, INSTALL may immediately load Quattro Pro and build one screen
      font.

There are certain limitations to the /Window commands in WYSIWYG mode.
You can tile windows onscreen, but you can't stack them one on top of
another. Because of this, you can't use the Move/Size command to
overlap windows while in WYSIWYG mode.

When using proportional fonts in WYSIWYG mode, the following commands
may produce inappropriate results: /Style|Column Width; /Style|Block
Size|Set Width, Reset Width, and Auto Width; /Tool|Reformat, and
Parse. For best results, change to a text display mode before using
      theses commands.

    8. Running Quattro Pro from within Paradox
    ------------------------------------------
When running Quattro Pro from within Paradox, you must have at least
2MB of memory, and you must run Paradox in protected mode. You can
set this as a default using the Paradox Custom Configuration Program.

If you are using Paradox on a stand-alone system (e.g. non-network
server installation), you still need to follow some network
      configuration procedures:

       1) Your Paradox private directory should not be the same as your
Paradox network directory (the directory that contains your
PARADOX.NET file). If the private directory must be changed, use
the Paradox Custom Configuration Program to permanently set the
location of your Paradox private directory.

       2) Run the Paradox NUPDATE.EXE program. Configure the "Type of
network" to "Other". Specify a path for the PARADOX.NET file in
the prompt "Directory for network control file" and include the
trailing backslash. On a stand-alone system, this file can be
placed anywhere on your hard disk where both Paradox and Quattro
Pro can find it. The exception is the Paradox private directory.

       3) Run Quattro Pro and use the /Options|Other|Paradox Access menu
to setup the configuration within Quattro Pro. Once again,
choose "Other" for the network type, and specify the same path
you used in NUPDATE.EXE for the PARADOX.NET file. Press Esc
until you return to the /Options menu then choose Update to save
this configuration to disk. In order for these settings to take
effect, you must exit and re-start Quattro Pro.

Only ANSWER.DB and other temporary .DB files can be retrieved from
the private directory. If your private directory and working
directory are the same, and you want to load a .DB file from the
working directory, you must also do the following:

       4) In Paradox, use the command Tools|More|Directory to make the
working directory different from the private directory.

After completing these steps, you should be able to retrieve Paradox
.DB files while running Quattro Pro from within Paradox.

If network type 6 (Other) doesn't work, switch to network type 1 and
      try again.

    9. Problems using a mouse
    -------------------------
Display problems using Quattro Pro and Microsoft mouse driver version
      7.04 disappear after CONFIG.SYS is changed to "device=mouse.sys /Y".

    10. Autosave Edits feature
    --------------------------
Autosave Edits is a new toggle setting on the /Graph|Name menu. With
this option set to Yes, all changes you make to any graph in the
      spreadsheet are automatically saved.

With Autosave Edits set to Yes, placing the cell selector inside
an inserted graph won't apply graph edits to that inserted graph.
Autosave edits always applies graph edits to the currently
selected graph, whose name appears beside the /Graph|Name|Display
      command.

With Autosave edits set to Yes, if you want to use a graph as a
template for another graph, choose /Graph|Name|Create and give the
new graph a name BEFORE you start making the changes. This way, the
      original graph remains intact.

    11. New binding in the manuals
    ------------------------------
The bindings for the Quattro Pro 3.0 manuals are designed to remain
open and flat when used. To take advantage of this "lay-flat" binding,
open the manual and gently press the pages down.

    12. Running under Windows
    -------------------------
If you want to run Quattro Pro in a small window (instead of full-
screen), either delete the file EGASPL.PCX, rename it, or move it to
another directory. Then within Quattro Pro, set the display mode to
one of the text modes. This way, Quattro Pro won't start up in
      graphics mode.

    13. Sound files
    ---------------
You may not be able to play sound files when running under Microsoft's
Windows in 386/Enhanced mode, or while running under Quarterdeck's
DESQView. When using the above configurations, save your spreadsheets
before experimenting with sound files. See Chapter 13 of the User's
Guide for instructions on using sound files.

If you would like to order additional sound effects, see the coupon
from RealSound that is included in your Quattro Pro package.

    14. Slide transitions
    ---------------------
Some video adapters don't support all slide transitions. If you find
that one transition doesn't work with your video adapter, try
      another.

    15. Using Expanded memory
    -------------------------
Quattro Pro 3.0 can only use up to 8MB of expanded memory.

To test whether your EMS hardware and software are working correctly,
run EMSTEST.COM from DOS and follow the instructions on the screen. If
errors are detected, contact your local hardware dealer.

    16. The DOS Shell command
    -------------------------
The DOS Shell command has been revised in version 3.0. Now, you can
either execute a single command from within Quattro Pro, or use a full
DOS Shell as in earlier versions. If you prefer the way earlier
versions of Quattro Pro performed the DOS Shell command, go into the
Menu Builder and assign the menu equivalent {/ Basics;OS} to the
command so that it works the way it used to. Menu Builder instructions
are documented in the @Functions and Macros manual.

    17. Default graph buttons in slide shows
    ----------------------------------------
When viewing a graph or a slide show, if you're not choosing a graph
button to branch to another graph, we recommend that you press
SPACEBAR or ESC to advance to the next screen. In cases where the
graph has a default graph button that branches to the same graph,
pressing any other key may redisplay the same graph.

    18. Printing in version 3.0
    ---------------------------
Here are the main changes from printing in version 2.0:

o PostScript colors now match the colors onscreen.

o Plotter colors now match the colors onscreen.

o Font 1 now controls both vertical and horizontal spacing.

o The vertical height of a row is calculated as follows:

          * A manual row-height setting overrules the default row height.

          * If the height of the row has not been manually set, the
height is determined by either the largest font in that row
or the height of Font 1, whichever is largest.

o If the selector is within an inserted graph block, /Print|Graph
Print|Go will always print the inserted graph. To print a
different graph, position the selector outside the inserted graph
and use /Print|Name to select a different graph to print.

    19. Printing on a Novell network
    --------------------------------
If your documents don't print correctly over a Novell network, ask
your network administrator to go into the PRINTCON program and
      set the following options:

           Option Setting
           ----------------------------------------------
           File Contents Byte Stream
           Auto Endcap No
           Enable Timeout Yes
Timeout Count (any number from 50 to 120)

    20. Startup Options
    -------------------
Network administrators can use the SET QARGS command to pass
various startup parameters automatically whenever the user
      starts Quattro Pro.

      The syntax is:

          SET QARGS=x

where x can be one or more command-line options.

For example, the following command tells Quattro Pro to load the file
FY92BUDG.WQ1 and use the default configuration file BUDG.RF each time
      the user starts the program:

         SET QARGS=FY92BUDG.WQ1 /DBUDG.RF

You can place this command in the user's AUTOEXEC.BAT file; just
include the full DOS path to the Quattro Pro directory. For example,
the following line could be placed in the user's AUTOEXEC file:

        SET QARGS=C:\QPRO\FY92BUDG.WQ1 /DC:\QPRO\BUDG.RF

See Chapter 7 of the User's Guide for an explanation of the available
      command-line (startup) options.

    21. Writing to database files
    -----------------------------
When saving (or extracting) to a database file, Quattro Pro 3.0
checks the first row of the block to ensure that the field names are
unique. If they're not, Quattro Pro inserts a new first row, using the
corresponding column letters as field names.

For example, if you're extracting the block E1..J45 and the field
names in row 1 are not unique, Quattro Pro inserts a new first row
      containing the field names E, F, G, H, I and J.

    22. List of files
    -----------------
During installation, Quattro Pro creates a file called FILELIST.DOC,
which lists all Quattro Pro files and their purpose.

You can read this file by typing

          o README FILELIST.DOC

      from the DOS prompt.

    23. 1-2-3 version 2.2 files
    ---------------------------
When you load a 1-2-3 release 2.2 file into Quattro Pro and choose
the option Use 2.2 syntax, block names in 2.2 links are translated
      into absolute cell addresses.

This can cause a problem if you copy or move a named block; the block
address in the link does not automatically adjust to the new location.

To avoid this problem, after you load the file into Quattro Pro,
edit the block names in the links so they're no longer absolute.

A similar problem exists when saving a Quattro Pro file to a 1-2-3
file format; absolute cell references in links translate to relative
cell addresses in the .WK1 file.
